As we ring in the New Year, now is the time to reflect on what we have accomplished in 2022, and set our sights on new goals for 2023! Whether you’re a CEO or an entry-level employee, everyone can benefit from setting achievable yet challenging objectives that encourage self-improvement.
With so much going on, it can be tempting to put those aspirations aside until there’s more time – but trust me when I say starting will make all the difference. So take a deep breath and grab your vision board because here are my top tips on how to effectively set and achieve goals in 2023.
Drawing upon my own experience from my professional sporting days, one thing I know when it comes to goal setting and progress is the importance of having structure. Chunking big goals, or as I like to call them, “castle on the hill” moments, down into smaller goals/checkpoints and challenging yourself (in a positive way!) to keep growing – these are all important steps in achieving your dreams! Whether you want to accelerate your career, learn something new or give back to your community- this year let’s make your goals even bigger than they already are:
1) Make a plan of action for each goal, including what steps you need to take and by when.
As we step into the new year, many of us are focusing on goals that will improve our lives and help us to lead more fulfilling lives. To ensure that goals become reality, it’s important to map out a plan of action with steps that need to be taken and deadlines for when goals should be reached. This ensures clarity on what needs to happen and motivates you to focus with passion on the goals you have set yourself. Making your own personal development an active project is a great way to keep track of progress made towards goals in the new year and makes results easier to measure – success one step at a time!
2) Write down your goals and put them somewhere you’ll see them often, like on your fridge or in your planner
Writing down your goals and putting them somewhere you’ll see often is the first step towards accountability for achieving those goals. You can use this strategy for both short-term tasks like food shopping, or long-term life plans such as starting a business. Put your written goals on the fridge so you are reminded of them every time you grab a snack, or record them in your planner so they’re always on hand whenever it’s time to check things off your list. Either way, accountability starts with a pen and some paper!
3) Share your goals with friends or family to hold yourself accountable
Sharing your goals with friends or family can be a great way of ensuring you stay on track and accomplish exactly what it is you’re aiming for. Having your goals in writing and having someone around you who can cheer you on, give you guidance and also hold you accountable when things get tough will help motivate and encourage you to keep going and push towards achievement. So if you’ve made some resolutions this year – take heart – it’s never too late to share them with people who care about you and your success!
4) Celebrate each small victory along the way – it all adds up!
Success is no sprint-it’s a marathon. Every journey to success is built on small victories, so celebrate each one! With every success, no matter the size, you’re making progress that leads to bigger and better success down the line. Don’t belittle your accomplishments or think they’re too small to count as every success adds up to make something great! So cheer yourself on and keep pushing forward. Celebrating wins helps build your confidence and set you up for success in the future.
Before I sign off, I am setting YOU a challenge… let me know in the comments something you’re proud to have achieved in 2022, and what you’re going to do to build upon this in 2023 🏆 Even better, add a photo in too!
